Should We Celebrate Halloween or Alternative Church Events?

Pumpkin Patch 2010

Lately, the question about observing Halloween has been weighing on me.  Should we as Christians celebrate Halloween?  Should we even participate in church trunk or treats?  I have had an uneasy sense about this today, but have never made a decision to forgo the dressing up.  Growing up and now with my kids, it has never been a big event, but we have dressed up and gone trick or treating (no evil attire).  I came across a blog today over at Holy Spirit-Led Homeschooling that prompted me to think more about this.  As we seek to raise our children in the ways of righteousness, we want to make sure that we can tell them about the history and the “why” of our celebrations.  What do you think, should we celebrate Halloween?

  1. When you ask God He will lead you toward the right answer and what is best for your family. I would get with my husband and you both can come together on one accord and arm yourselves with the knowledge and history of the holiday. Then prayerfully seek and answer.
